Stick to TV

Due to my busy schedule, now that I'm a working man and phillies baseball, my movie consumption has been on low. My new schedule has me waking up at about 6:30am and going to be at 11:30pm. Don't shed a tear for me, OH NO! I will overcome.

The Poll from last week (which is located on the right hand side of the site ===>) has come to a conclusion and the people have spoken. One person told me, "Oh, 'Mr. Movie' you forgot The Nightmare Before Christmas, you big fat loser", ok he wasn't THAT mean but u get the point. However, The Nightmare Before Christmas was written and produced by Tim Burton not directed, soooo. SHHH! The total amount of votes, 1 for Batman and Sleepy Hollow, 2 for Big Fish, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and Bettlejuice and the big winner with 4 votes
Check out the new poll, lets get some more voters!!!

Here is a top 4 I came up with at work while googlging through the garbage that is pop culture.

The Top 4 People Who Aren't in Movies and Probably Will be but Shouldn't!

4) Rappers
I'm not trying to ride on dubs at the movie theater

I never really loved any musicians who tried there foot in the movie ring (accept Justin Timberlake who I have a man crush on). Especially rappers. All there movies are usually the same, guns, money, rise from nothing, big rims, and women with big butts. There are a few who are already "actors" for instance T.I., sorry man your movies aren't really that good. Plus they take each other with them. In the new movie Lottery, Lil Bow Wow...excuse me...Bow Wow wins the lottery. T-PAIN IS IN THE MOVIE...please stop.

3) Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer
and anyone else who has a similar idea
I know these guys are already in film but whatever. These are the guys that brought you, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie, and the Scary Movies (the first one was good). But they spawned others like Craig Mazin who is responsible for Super Hero Movie, and Craig Moss who is responsible for The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About it. Really guys, get a life. Your destroying something these people created because you have not one iota of creativity or humor in your body. These guys drive me nuts, talk about doing it for the money, not that they can make that much. This is just letting other people think they should and are allowed to do this. DON'T DO IT

2) Athletes
stick to television
Don't get me wrong but I do enjoy a nice cameo if the movie is sports related. It gives it a feel of authenticity. But man, u ever see Dan Marino in Ace Ventura???? No athlete has been in a good movie with a major role. With athletes running around with $10000000 and them all now wanting to be "entrepreneurs" there's bond to be one coming around thats gonna produce a movie and try to be in it.
1) Lady Gaga
NOOOOOOOOOOO!
She annoys the crap outa me and the way things are going for her it's only a matter of time. December 12th 2012 maybe?

So there's my list, if you disagree, agree or have your own thoughts let me and the viewers know!

Netflix Instant Watch of the Week: Sin Nombre. A great foreign film about a young man trying to escape the violent gang he is mixed up with in Honduras. He steals a ride on a northbound train with 100's of other Hondurans trying to make it to America. This journey movie looks and feels great and you will be rooting for Casper the whole time as he and his new friend Sayra try to dodge danger and find hope in the states.

Netflix DVD of the Week: The Wild Bunch! A great action flick. I've seen a bunch of top 10 lists of best gun fights in a movie and The Wild Bunch is always in it. A different type of old wild west movie. These guys are no John Wayne, they are rough around the edges and are quick to pull the trigger for things they want and believe in. Ranked 79th on the AFI's (American Film Institute) top 100 movies of all time. Thumbs up!

Now.....a little bit of movie news:

Why the Expendables was Van Dammeless
I was pretty bummed when I found out that Van Damme (Blood Sport, Street Fighter, Universal Soldier: Regeneration) wasn't gonna be part of the newest action-packed bloodbath written and directed by Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone (Rambo, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Rocky). The movie debuted Friday to rave reviews from action fans, I'm pretty ecstatic to see it. I figured that Stallone flat out didn't offer JCVD a role because how could he say no to something like this if he had. If you don't know the movie mixes some of the top action movie stars from the last 20 years. However it was found out that Stallone did offer him a spot, and more or less denied because he is trying to expand his horizons. Yea that's why hes set to be in Kung Fu Panda 2, a movie called Weapon and Universal Soldier: The New Dimension which is the third installment. Yea way to ruin it JCVD. The rest of the article can be found at Yahoo! movies http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/movie-talk-why-was-jean-claude-van-damme-deemed-expendable.html

Star Wars Blue Ray!!!
All you need to know is that its set to release in the fall of 2011. All 6 will be upgraded and there will be extras like, "documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives". The whole article found at Slashfilm.com http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/08/14/star-wars-blu-ray-announced-for-fall-2011-deleted-scene-revealed/

Freakonomics...the movie?
Magnolia Pictures (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, District B13, Jesus Camp, Humboldt County) is releasing an adaptiation-documentary of the book Freakonomics. This is interesting, especially for people who have read the book, because the book realy has no ryme or reason in the sense of telling a story. The book is made up of 10-12 different subjects that Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt write about. So the movie is going to be made up of segments directed by documentary elitists that brought you "Super Size Me, Jesus Camp, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Why We Fight, and The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters." I looooooved The King of Kong documentary so check it out if you haven't. The rest of the story and the trailer at Slashfilm.com http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/08/12/movie-trailer-freakonomics/

Movie Art
I love movie art. When people take ideas from movies I love and create something different yet familiar I get all excited inside. Here is some art from a group called Gallery1988 with some great concept art from 3 great movies, The Goonies, Gremlins and The Ghostbusters.

  1. The sheer audacity of Hollywood to continued funding of Friedberg & Seltzer films is another sign that the apacolypse is upon us.

  2. Chris I've seen that pic and it's awesome I LOVE movie concept art, where they take an idea and sort of make their own creation or adaptation. BRILLIANT! and darkness 2012 and its over!
